Wells Fargo Championship Weather

It’s that time of year again and this is the 10th anniversary of the PGA returning to the Queen City. It’s Wells Fargo Championship week at Quail Hollow in South Charlotte. Activities run all week long with practice rounds and the Pro-AM’s starting today. The 4 rounds run from Thursday through Sunday. I have kept a climate record of all 4 rounds of the tournament since it started back in 2003. The weather history of the tournament can be found via the link below.

This years forecast:

Lets look ahead to what you can expect for the 4 rounds out at the tournament this year. The first thing you worry about are the rain chances. This year the pattern is very cool and it appears some form of a cool wedge will be in place most of the weekend. There will likely be very light rain or drizzle Thursday and Friday but right now no lightning. Here’s a run down of the daily model output for the 4 rounds.

The model outputs below are for 6 hour precipitation for 2pm each day from the GFS and ECMWF models.

Temperatures:

This is going to be a cool week out at Quail Hollow especially compared to last year when it was blazing hot. Last year we had the second warmest tournament on record with highs in the upper 80s for the first 3 rounds. This year we will be stuck in the 60s and morning lows could be as low as the upper 30s. Make sure you dress for cool weather this week.
