The weekend penumbral lunar eclipse will be a dud
This weekend we get a partial penumbral lunar eclipse. The partial and penumbral parts are really important to why this will be a minor event and most people would not notice if someone didn’t tell you.
The Earth has 2 shadows:
You may not know but there are 2 types of shadows and the Earth casts 2 of them. The darker one which causes a more typical eclipse is the Umbra. That the shadow and eclipse that make the moon go completely dark and is a worthy event to stay up and observe.
The second shadow which is super light is called the penumbra and it only slightly darkens the moon to the point it kinda looks like a high wispy cloud over part of the moon.
What we will see in the Carolinas.
Honestly, this will be kind of lame and around here. So here’s an example of what you will see it in this case really not see.
Pre Eclipse Full Moon
Maximum Partial Penumbral Ecplise.
Here’s some annotation to help.
So yes there is partial lunar eclipse but it’s bot the really cool kind where we see part of the Moon disappears for a while then reappears. Look at this is a partial dimming of the moon and will be hard to notice unless you know what you are looking for. In this case, now you do so if you want to give it a look just don’t expect anything too spectacular.
