Winter Making a Comeback Just as Spring Starts.
So the Vernal Equinox is Wednesday at 7:02am in the morning, This marks the astronomical start to spring in the northern Hemisphere. Meteorological Spring started on March 1st. Mother Nature though certainly has other plans. Starting Wednesday night through early next week temperatures will be getting progressively colder.The arctic front arrives Wednesday with a few storms and maybe even a few flurries east of the mountains Wednesday night. The mountains will see several waves of snow with the cold surges moving in on the northwest flow.
Sunday into Monday could be the peak of the cold weather. The ECMWF model shows highs on Sunday across the Carolina’s between 20-30° below average for this time of the year. Remember by this weekend the average highs are around 66-67°. So this is cold but it’s March cold not January cold. Below in the departure from normal temperatures for Sunday. The Polar Vortex sets up over parts of Canada and blocking over Greenland help pump the cold air south.
So over the next 10 days it stay much colder than average, we won’t see warm temperatures again till sometime in April. In the mean time warm thoughts everyone!
