Much Needed Soaker for Sunday

I know it’s the weekend and all but boy do we need the rain. It’s only early March and we are already 3.30” behind average for the year. The large storm system will bring a few showers Saturday but most of the daylight hours will be dry. So CIAA fans will be mostly dry Saturday, but the party’s Saturday night and festivities uptown will be wet. The real rain arrives Saturday night and last well into Sunday. Here’s a look at the storm from the Futurecast model and the EURO model at 1pm Sunday afternoon. Notice the very heavy rain right on top of us.

The GFS model soundings from the Bufkit spit out 1.50” of rainfall. While the NAM model has much more rain just to the West of Charlotte some areas are in the 2-4” range. The HPC or (Hydrometeorological Prediction Center) mirrors the NAM thinking with heavier amounts to the west.

Here are the totals I’m thinking we will see. Somewhere in the 1-2” range across the Charlotte area starting late Saturday evening through Sunday evening. Areas just north and west of I-85 could see 2-3” amounts and areas in the southwest mountains and the Upstate of South Carolina could see 2-4”.
