Hot June 2010

This comes as no shocker to the people in Charlotte but this has been an extremely hot June. The odd thing is we didn’t even set one daily record high and it won’t even finish as one of the top 5 hottest Junes on record.

So far as of this blog post our average temperature for June 2010 is:    80.3°.

Which is +3.8° above average but not in the top five warmest Junes ever. It actually would ties us for the 7th hottest June on record with the June of 1925.

Here are the top 5 hottest Junes on record here in Charlotte:

JUN 81.4° 1943
80.9° 1998
80.8° 1944 1939
80.6° 1986 1952
80.4° 1925

(remember this average temp is taking all the highs + lows and dividing by the number of days)

Here’s the crazy thing though as far as 90°+ days in a row are concerned. This is the most we have ever had in the month of June. For the month of June we have hit 90° or better a whopping 18 days in a row/consecutively.

The previous record for number of 90°+ days in row in June was 11 set twice, once in 1914 and again in 1994.

In case you are wondering the record number of consecutive 90° days in one month is 31 set twice in August of 2007 and August 1986. The record for most days in a row with 90°+ is 33 consecutive days but that was set over a 2 month period obviously.
