More snow Wednesday? Maybe

I think we will see some white stuff falling but little or no accumulation around Charlotte. The problem lies in the moisture arriving much earlier than the cold air. If there is to be a dusting to around an 1” of snow I expect that to occur along I-40.

The models are all showing at least a little bit of snowday2_psnow_gt_04 across the piedmont but the accumulations are very small. This looks like a good event for the mountains as the northwest flow cranks up Wednesday afternoon and night and NCEP has the mountains highlighted in their 4” probability charts.

Closer look

Looking at the sounding and meteogram data it shows that this Wednesdays storm may not be the one to worry too much about. This weekend a large and powerful east coast storm will crank up and move up the coast. There is still many details to work out but one thing is for sure it will be quite the storm for someone in the mid-Atlantic or Northeast of the U.S. The GFS sure likes this storm to bring 3” or so to the Carolinas this weekend.
